According to vastu, few things should be completely avoided while decorating the house as they are believed to create negativity and bring bad for the residents. 1. Image of Mahabharata - You should never keep an image of any of the scenes from Mahabharata in your house.Such things and images symbolizes a never ending rivalry among the family members.
2. Negative Paintings - Choosing a painting is an art in itself. A painting is not a mere combination of colours on a canvas. There are feelings and sentiments attached to a painting. The type of painting you’re hanging in your house will vastly affect the aura of the house. For example, if you’re hanging a painting of a crying child, it will set a negative feeling in the house. Caged birds, sad animals, depressed person, etc.,such paintings should never be kept in your house. Hang them in your porch if you want to.
3. Taj Mahal - Although Taj Mahal is considered to be the epitome of love, a picture or showpiece of the same must never be kept at home. It is actually the grave of Mumtaz, Shahjahan’s wife,and symbolizes death and passivity. It is trusted that such things create negative atmosphere in the surroundings.
4. Nataraja- The image of a cosmic dancer Shiva is to be found in the house of almost every classical dancer. But there are two sides of the same coin. Nataraja symbolises this tremendous art form,at the same time it symbolises destruction. It is so because the dance form is actually 'tandava nritya', meaning dance for destruction. So an image or showpiece of nataraja is one of things that should not be there in your home.
5. Cactus - This is the biggest folly committed by almost every single person. Some even keep more than a single cactus plant in their house for decoration. This is a complete No-No.Thorns are never seen as a good object in our mythology and literature. It depicts negative energy. It disrupts the cordial relation between the family members if kept inside the house. Apart from roses, no thorny plant should be kept inside a house. If you have one at your house, keep it outside immediately.
6. Statue of Animals - Vastu recommends avoiding exhibiting any life form, whether birds or wild animals, through photos and statues in the home. Keeping statues of birds like eagles, bats,vulture and owls is sure to bring a violent streak in the nature of people living in the house. Statues of wild animals like tiger, cheetah, bear, snake and zebra should also be kept away as it depicts wildness in the surroundings.Even in case one has these at home, they should never display it especially in bedrooms and living areas.
