While you know that the lamps/diyas lit on the Diwali night signifies the end of darkness of ignorance and the beginning the enlightenment of knowledge, success and happiness for all? Environmental Pollution through Firecrackers: - "Say 'No' to Fire crackers and 'Yes' to life!" For most people lighting of firecrackers is the highlight of Diwali. Brighter the sparkles, louder the noise the greater the thrill!! In fact to many of us, these aesthetic forms of light seem so appropriate and most essential when celebrating the 'Festival of Lights'.
It is now well known that the firecrackers cause very intense and harmful air pollution The harmful substances used in the firecrackers release harmful gases that are detrimental to the environment, nature and health of all living beings, i.e., animal kingdom and human beings. There is high level of noise pollution too generated by the crackers which causes immense suffering to one and all and is dreaded by the birds, animals, children, sick and the ailing.
Side effects of the Chemicals used in Firecrackers:
Some of the harmful chemicals used in the preparation of the firecrackers are, Copper, Cadmium, Lead, Magnesium, Sodium, Zinc, Nitrite, Nitrate etc. The dust and fumes of the firecrackers cause metal fume fever, irritation of respiratory tract, Anemia, blood disorders and damage to kidney. There are adverse effects on liver functions, digestive system, eyes, the nervous system, violent reaction with moisture and attack on the skin, lungs, nausea, vomiting, mental impairment and even coma.
