We know by now that words have the power to change our reality, power to change the way we think and reprogram our subconscious mind. Mantras are sacred words that resonate deep within our soul, matching with the frequency of the universe and when repeated frequently it purifies the mind and soul, brings clarity and transforms the negative thought pattern into positive ones.
The Sanskrit word, Mantra means man – “mind” and tra means “tool or instrument,” so, its a tool to transport the mind to a place of stillness. Most of the mantras are written in Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages known to mankind. Some linguists also regard it as the perfect language that resonates with the microcosm of our bodies and the macrocosm of the universe.
Mantra: Om or Aum
You can chant this mantra to enhance your divine feelings and to attain a harmonic state of mind. It reduces the negative thoughts and invokes universal consciousness. The positive vibrations experience while chanting this mantra will help you gain higher concentration; achieve self-realization and attain calmness.
Mantra: Om Mani Padme Hum
Om Mani Padme Hum is the most important mantra in Buddhism.It means “jewel in the lotus”. This is a way of saying we are all jewels waiting to be uncovered in the mud of self-limitation.
This chant helps to unlock the compassion hidden within.Chanting regularly and with good intentions brings a cleansing sensation to the mind.
Mantra: Om Namo Narayanaya
The Om Namo Narayanaya mantra may not be the easiest to pronounce, but the basic translation means “to bow to the resting place of all living entities.” Its focus is humanitarian, connecting the self to others and sending positive vibes outward. It’s a chant for the universe to receive peace,love, health and happiness.
What I love about yoga is that at its very core it embraces self-love and personal growth while also being community-focused. When we’re happy with ourselves, it’s important to express gratitude to others, which is what this mantra can facilitate.

This Ganesh mantra can remove all your obstacles providing you immense protection from the divine. If you feel that you are dumped with problems, encountering complex situations continuously then you can appease Ganesha by chanting his mantra and seeking his protection. All those who are facing heavy competition in life can take resort in this mantra as Ganesha is considered as the God of wisdom and success.
Mantra for Happiness: Lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu means “may all beings live in happiness, free of suffering and in divine union”. This chant is usually done at the end of a meditation or yoga practice, almost as a prayer.
This is a powerful mantra that helps to release anger and hatred, and more importantly affirms that all beings deserve what we all want-happiness. This can subtlety change our mindset to be much more peaceful and willing to give love.
